KEY TO HOME

DELIVER

Here, we are opening the floor to a ‘getting-it-done’ generation by fostering collaborations with key players and innovators across various sectors at a local, national and international scale.

SOCIAL

Become a key player in addressing the housing affordability need is critical not only for social equity but also for the overall enhancement of community resilience.

ASSETS

Understanding the importance of maintaining a stockpile of new constructions, retrofits, and upgrades to pre-existing affordable housing cannot be overstated.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Affordable Housing Conference (AHC) and IDEAS HC acknowledges that we respect, live, learn, work and play on the traditional territories. We are genuinely in gratitude for the opportunities past, present and future and that our works would not be possible without the preliminary works of the original people of these lands and the many other lands we set foot on around the world.

In our efforts in reconciliation and meeting current times, the Affordable Housing Conference founder took heart into action, and founded its vision, mission and goal with recollection, appreciation and continuous understanding in mind, to address the needs for quality housing and equitable advancement for the original people, the Indigenous Peoples of Canada.

“In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, îethka Nakoda Nations: Chiniki, Bearspaw, Goodstoney and Tsuut’ina Nation. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta Districts 5 and 6.”

IMPORTANT UPDATES

Regarding the upcoming Affordable Housing Conference

The Affordable Housing Conference & Strategy Meetings for Indigenous Peoples & Indigenous Communities of Gathering Tribes and Nations (AHCIC) date has been changed.

As conference attendance continues to grow, AHCIC has expanded beyond our capacity to adequately serve all needs within the original time frame left, we are excited the announce that the original date of the 2025 AHCIC from November 18-21, 2025 has been changed to Spring 2026. While the move come with both its pros and cons, the Affordable Housing Conference believes the new date will provide a well-rounded event for all and negate the current challenges impacting the original November date such as: the National Canadian Union of Postal Workers Strike, the Province-wide Teachers’ Strike, inclusive representations of attendees travelling during this time of the year on Winter Road conditions, particularly those travelling from Remote, Rural Communities, Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and/or Alaska.

What is next for AHCIC?

While the in-person conference is postponed, AHC is excited to host a virtual one-day conference in December. This event will highlight upcoming grants, projects, business investments, and resources, providing crucial information before the end of the year. As some grant funding commences in early 2026, we feel it is important to share the information we do have for this time period and not let it expire. This virtual conference is not intended to replace the integral components of the in-person conference and strategy meetings, including the connections, education, practicum, theory, and retreat experience offered in Banff, which is why we are proceeding with the Spring 2026 date.

As a pre-introduction to AHCIC 2026 and the inconvenience, the virtual event in December will be complimentary for previously registered AHCIC 2025 attendees. The Affordable Housing Conference has offered two options for previous paid registered AHCIC 2025 attendees and is currently working on modifying the conference information within a 21 day time period.

AHC will continue its efforts on AHCIC and refocus to successfully execute our MOVEMBER Campaign, Holiday Fundraiser, a Holiday Food Hamper Program, Christmas Toy Drive, Bundle Up Little One,  benefiting thousands of families across Canada including the Territories, to combat food insecurity.

The International Affordable Housing Conference & Strategy Meetings may be cancelled, due to weather.

The International Affordable Housing Conference & Strategy meetings will be hosted in Montego Bay, Jamaica from January 2-4, 2026. A chance to meet with professionals, decision makers, housing advocate allies, academia and experts from around the world to professionally network, share information, invest in new/innovative solutions, support progress, connect Canada’s resources and address pressing issue regarding affordability. In recent days, a hurricane warning issued for the Caribbean island of Jamaica is estimated for landfall on Tuesday October 28, 2025.

According to the National Hurricane Center, this will likely cause "life-threatening and catastrophic flash flooding and landslides" in parts of Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Jamaica, as it is currently listed as a Category 4 Hurricane before landfall.

Like many natural disasters, it is hard to predict in advance the devastation that may or may not incurr. Regardless, safety continues to be the Affordable Housing Conference number one priority. Please note, the Affordable Housing Conference (AHC) is actively monitoring Hurricane Melissa and will update accordingly on the upcoming IAHC schedule to be hosted in Montego Bay, Jamaica January 2-4, 2026. This includes the possibility of cancelling the IAHC in Jamaica and/or partnering to support any relief efforts as a organization supporting Housing in Crisis. In the event of a cancellation or postponed date due to Hurricane Melissa, the Affordable Housing Conference will offer two options for registered and paid attendees.

Our hearts and prayers for continued safety and preparedness are with those in Hurricane Melissa pathways.

The Affordable Housing Conference Team sincerely apologize the inconveniences these unforeseen events may have caused and  appreciate your understanding as we navigate these developments and are here to help where we can for your best interest as well. Kindly note, that due to the large volume of refunds which may incurr, please allow up to 21 days after the conference date for a refund. Should you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact us.
